Garden Office Spotlight – garden buildings for home business
Garden Office Spotlight is a monthly sponsored feature that showcases three of the latest garden buildings to be completed in the UK.
Today we have an industrial style office with unusual metal cladding, a building with a curved wall designed to fit into the available space, and a garden pod for freelancer and dog! (Click on the pictures to see them full size).
SIPS Garden Rooms
’The clients for this SIPS Garden Room were architects who wanted an industrial finish so we chose to use high grade galvanised steel. Another reason was the 1m boundary rule (within 1m the facing elevation must be made of a non-combustible material) which a lot of companies do not adhere to.
The steel sheets were not easy to work with; not like lovely soft cedar cladding. Lots of sharp edges and not very easy to undo any damage – with wood you can just sand your worries away 🙂
The internal hardwood marine ply was oiled to give a 70’s boardroom finish and the metal garage-style sockets and switches helped to add to the industrial feel.’
Contemporary Garden Rooms
‘This garden office in Thames Ditton was designed to fit perfectly within the available area in the small terraced garden. It has a curved back wall and meets at a point by the back gate in order to allow continuing access.
Contemporary Garden Rooms use a very high level of insulation to make our offices comfortable to work in all year round. And in this case, as the building is located 30m from a railway line, additional soundproofing plasterboard ensures that with the doors closed you do not notice trains passing.
The building is finished with cedar cladding and aluminium bi-fold doors opening on to a deck made from recycled plastics.’
Green Studios
‘Our client for this build, a freelance social media consultant in Hitchin, chose one of our garden pods to accommodate her business and her business partner, the family dog!
Green Studios garden pods are built with SIPS (Structural Insulated Panels) to make sure they are warm in the winter. It has cedar cladding, which creates a gorgeous toxic-free exterior, a smooth Fermacell interior finish and a wide aluminium window that allows maximum light into the room.
Whilst compact, the pod has ample desk room for two people plus room for storage. And of course the essential dog bed to make sure everyone’s happy!’
We hope our latest selection of garden buildings will provide you with plenty of inspiration and information for your own workspace.
