Treats for freelancers – Thursday Treat Time

Treats for freelancers - Emma CosseyIt’s Thursday Treat Time again!

Penny Golightly and I are delving deeper

into the topic that’s so vital for the wellbeing

of home workers.

Today I interview writer, blogger and editor Emma Cossey about treats for freelancers.

Emma covers everything freelance related on her blog The Freelance Lifestyle.

Hi Emma, how important are treats for freelancers, do you think? How do you reward yourself for a job well done?
Essential! I actually think little treats contribute far more to happiness than big treats – especially if you acknowledge them. For me, a little (free!) treat is having time to sit down with a cup of tea to catch up on my favourite blogs. But if I finish a big project, I love treating myself to little things like a new make up item, or a new piece of clothing. Or stationery. Stationery is my addiction.

Do you have a favourite no-cost treat? What is it, and how does it improve your day?
Meditation. I’m possibly one of the least zen people I know, but 10 minutes on the Calm.com app is a real treat, and can help me deal with anger, upset, a fact-filled brain or simply give me a sense of calm and focus for the rest of the work day.

If you had £10 or less to purchase yourself a little treat, what would it be? Where would you buy it, and why?
An iPhone app. I tend to download a couple of new apps every week, and a treat would be being able to splurge on one.

What are the best things about your favourite cheap treat?
I spend so much time relying on my iPhone and iPad for business, that apps can really benefit my business – and some of them are tax deductible!

One woman’s treat might be another’s torture! Is there anything that some people enjoy that you would do anything to avoid?
Oh, coffee. Remember that scene from Ally McBeal where they spend ages enjoying their coffee? That’s me….up until I drink it. Bleugh!

What would your ultimate treat be if you had unlimited resources, time or funds?
Tricky! A cleaner, a new wardrobe and the flexibility to take on projects working with young female entrepreneurs. I don’t think I could give up work – one of the treats of doing something you love! But I’d be able to be more picky about what I did do.
