Try something new with social media this year
New Year social media tips for home workers
by Melanie Mackie
It’s back to work for many following the festive break and social media networks are full of tweets and posts sharing ideas for resolutions and goals for the New Year.
This year I have decided not to make any resolutions, as they often don’t last until the end of the month. However, I do review how I spend my time and following a little bit of a digital detox over the Christmas break, I know I come back refreshed and gain a fresh perspective on the social media world.
Avid social media users seem to stick with what they know, sharing similar content and tweeting the same people. So instead of making a list of New Year resolutions how about making some subtle changes and trying something new with social media this year?
Here are some ideas of what you can tweak to liven things up for the year ahead:
- Cleansing – New Year is always an ideal time to decluttter, out with the old and in with the new. Review your social media accounts, disconnect and unfollow those that no longer offer any value to you and just create noise that you tend to ignore anyway.
- Connect – This leaves you with the ideal opportunity to find some new people to connect with. With fresh and informative content everything feels different pretty quickly.
- Chatter – Take the plunge and talk to new people, respond to tweets, add comments to Facebook and blogs. Make this part of your social strategy as a concerted effort here will help to open up your social circle even further and help you to make new friends and acquaintances.
- Content – Log on to your social networks at different times, you’ll find different users are on-line at various times of the day so you’ll access a mixture of content and chat. And you will have the opportunity to capture different people when you share your posts and up-dates throughout the day.
And finally check out a watercooler moment on Twitter as this is where you get the opportunity to join in with a real-time chat.
Perfect remedy for the winter months as isolation tends to hit home workers the hardest.
Have a very Happy Sociable New Year.
