Home working competition – winner of liGo BlueWave

The oddest story about home working communication!

Work from Home Wisdom home working competition - liGo BlueWaveA big thank you to everyone who entered the competition to win a liGo BlueWave, which one of our home working review panel recently awarded 4 out of 5 stars in our BlueWave review.

The entrants recounted their stories of home working communication breakdown or embarrassment. The competition closed on Monday and after a great deal of deliberation A and I chose the winner from a number of close contenders.

In the end we plumped for Lisa Anderson’s tale that manages to include miscommunication on a Skype call and dating!

‘I held a sales meeting over Skype to try and sell one of our new products. I had prepared my pitch well and was surprised to see total confusion on the face of the customer. After about 5 minutes I asked him if he had any questions to which he replied “very interesting, now how about that date?” Someone I had been emailing on a dating website decided to call me at the exact same time as my new client! Needless to say I lost the client but went on a great date!’

Other entertaining tales included San Sharma’s experience of a ‘home worker’ starting to strip on one of his video Watercoolermoments for Enterprise Nation. No wonder they’re usually conducted over Twitter!

Barry John recalled some clients who came to his house to look at portraits of their child and left with his USB stick and minus their mobile. Fortunately after searching two terminals at Manchester airport he managed to find them just before they boarded a flight.

Family members making unscheduled contributions to work phone calls figured largely, either children with their usual devastating honesty or Pete’s mum, who was rather offended when he hung up on her after she butted into a Skype call!

You can see all the entries in the comments on the original blog post.

Many thanks to Daniel at liGo for suggesting the competition and donating the prize.
