Home workers – would you like to appear on the blog?

Work from Home Wisdom - home workers feature on blogIt’s the time of year to look back at what happened last year and make plans for the future, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing.

Last year I started to feature home workers on the blog in all kinds of ways and I’ve now lost count of how many people have taken part! Let’s just say at Christmas I sent out almost 200 emails to people who had contributed over the course of the year.

If you’re wondering how I find people to feature, they often pop up through interactions on Twitter and Facebook, and then one tends to lead to another.

For example, I tweeted with Adele Bates and discovered she is a home working opera singer. Then Adele suggested her brother Adam, who is a sports commentator. Adam in turn suggested Isabel Amorim, the chocolatier, whose interview was very popular at the end of last year.

Or people put forward home workers they know – Kay Heald reminded me about the cosy fingerless gloves made by Turtle Doves. The gloves got high marks in our How to Keep Warm review.

Robert Peters read some of the posts and put forward his client Giuseppe Colombi. Giuseppe runs an accountancy practice from home in London and Sardinia, and told us about running a business in two countries in interviews over Christmas.

Ways home workers and home businesses can feature on the blog:

  • Contribute a guest post on a subject of interest to home workers.
  • Send in a photo of the place you work at home or go to while mobile working, with about 100 words describing it.
  • Send me a photo of the bag you use for mobile working and its contents. Alan Williams started our new series recently and there’s a surprise in his backpack!
  • Take part in an interview – if you have an interesting story relating to home working, would like to share some tips, have an unusual job etc.
  • Suggest a product or service you supply that is frequently used by home workers, for review by our panel of home working reviewers.
  • I’m looking forward to lots of new ideas for 2013 so do get in touch.

And if you’ve already featured on the blog, I’d love to hear how you use the mention and the link, what feedback you get from being featured and whether it leads to any extra interest in your business. Do let me know if you’ve made new contacts as a result – that in itself is a great story!

Challenge accepted! Will spend some time thinking on a suitable contribution based on the above criteria.

That’s great, Kaitlyn. Based on your regular comments – for which, thank you, they are always appreciated – I’ve no doubt you have plenty of your own hard-won home working wisdom to share 🙂

  2. This is really cool! I will absolutely take you up on it too. I have been home working for the better part of 6 years and while it’s not a necessarily unique job (I’m a writer), I have plenty of fun stories and a pretty cool office to show off (finally!)

I look forward to it, Anthony. Just had a quick look at your website, and like Kaitlyn, you’ve obviously acquired lots of valuable experience. Being nosy, I mean curious, I’d love to see your home office and I bet so would lots of other home workers.

  3. Ooooh, I’d love to, Judy, if you’ll have me! Can I get my website up and running first? It’s being refurbished and I’m focusing on that this week 🙂

    • Judy says:

Of course I’ll have you, Santhie! Just get in touch when your website is ready and let me know what you’d like to contribute 🙂
