Home business: increase your confidence
and attract more customers to your home business
– by Claire Habel of Inspiring Futures
Of course, I know it’s not all as easy as that but it is true. Aside from any number of other motivations you might have for wanting to boost your confidence, doing so really is a way of helping you to attract more customers and grow your home business.
Why? Well, whatever the nature of your business, you need to believe in yourself and your offering, if you want other people to. You are the face of your home business and the impression you make is vital to your business’ success.
Obviously confidence isn’t the only factor in making a positive impression but it does help reassure people. Nobody finds it easy to trust in someone who doesn’t seem very certain about the product or service they are providing.
Confident people often give off positive energy which can be attractive to others. This way of being is also likely to make people want to find out more about what you’re so positive about.
This isn’t about becoming inauthentic or a different person but becoming a more confident version of yourself. But how do you go about doing something that can seem so complex, personal and deep-rooted?
Well, there’s only so much detail I can include in this blog but here are some thought starters:
- Identify what your ideal picture of a more confident you would look like. It has to feel achievable and authentic. You’re not aiming to become someone else
- Try and establish what if anything is the source of any lack of confidence you may have. Seek outside feedback to gain perspective, and look at how you might be able to improve your skills in this area
- Be sure to measure the successes you achieve, no matter how small and track the progress you make
- Surround yourself with positive and supportive people
- Just because you work from home, doesn’t mean you have to isolate yourself. Be sure to go out and mix with other people. It’s been proven that social contact has a positive impact on introverts as well as extroverts
- Do something each week that pushes you out of your comfort zone. Think about it as a way of growing your comfort zone!
- Act as you want to feel. Various pieces of research support this approach as a successful way of changing thoughts and feelings. To ensure this feels authentic to you, act as you have done at a time when you have felt your most confident
- Put your shoulders back, walk tall, smile, make eye contact. All of these physiological changes not only send messages to others but also to your own brain. You’ll be surprised at how such simple adjustments can change the way you feel
Aside from attracting and engaging more customers, growing your confidence bit by bit will also result in you doing other things that can help grow your home business. Not only that, running your own business should be as enjoyable as possible. Feeling confident plays a part in this.

This is great advice. Without confidence in ourselves and our abilities, we can unknowingly sabotage our own efforts. The part about figuring out the source of your lack of confidence is one of the most important, in my opinion. If you’re not sure where it stems from, you can’t take effective steps to improve and feel better about yourself. Thanks for this! 🙂
Totally agree with the above comment. So important. I think it’s also important to remember that confidence isn’t the same as being 100% good at something – it’s having faith that you can learn, change, grow and understand.
I totally agree. The factors affecting an individuals confidence are varied and often complex but sometimes taking practical steps to make yourself feel that you’ve grown in a certain area can be a step in the right direction – even if it’s just your own perception of yourself that changes.
