Writing for your home business – ask not what, but why you want to write
In the second of writer’s coach Leda Sammarco’s posts, the focus is on how to write about topics that fit with your home business:
If my post last month, The write way to raise your business profile, has inspired you to write a book or simply to start writing articles and blog posts for your home business then I’m delighted. So, the next question you may be asking is what you should write about…or is it?
Instead, try asking why you want to write for your home business
Knowing the reason why you want to write is about your big vision and it goes way beyond what you do and how you do it. Remember that why is not about wanting to get more clients for your home business, raise your visibility or be seen as an expert, although writing can certainly do all these things, but they are outcomes or results. Most successful non-fiction authors are on a mission and want to share something with the world and create change.
Here is what I mean:
Q: What do you want to write about?
A: I want to write a book that…
- Guides people in how to network effectively
- Helps people to become more confident
- Teaches people about nutrition and wellbeing
Now, think about the real reason why you chose to run your home business in the first place and what inspired you to do it and I’ll ask a different question.
Q: Why do you want to write a book?
A: Because I want to…
- Create a paradigm shift in business where people collaborate rather than compete and engage with an open mind and an open heart.
- Build a world where people feel comfortable with themselves, have high self-esteem, and live a truly authentic life.
- Inspire everyone to live in harmony with their body allowing it to guide them in eating consciously leading to happy, healthy, high-energy lives.
Now these are books I want to read, don’t you?!
Leda Sammarco empowers spiritual entrepreneurs to write their first book. She works with authors in a partnership way to help them write their book and get it out into the world. In her next post Leda will cover the importance of structure and how to put a piece of writing together.

Absolutely love the heading. This post is great. I never thought of writing like that before. Great stuff.
Thank you, Michelle. Glad you enjoyed it. If you are intrigued by the whole ‘why’ thing, then you may enjoy a book called, ‘Start with Why’ by Simon Sinek.
