Wading Through Treacle
Much as I love the benefits of working from home, I can’t deny there are days when you feel like you’re wading through treacle. Today was such a day. We spent lots of time taking photos intended for the website, but when we got them onto the computer and into the right size, they just didn’t look good on the screen. (OK, photographers, stylists and designers, that’s exactly why you’ve invested all that time in your training, and now I appreciate how much effort goes into the end result!)
On a day like today I have to keep reminding myself that it wasn’t all a waste of time, it is a process of learning, and if we hadn’t gone through it, we wouldn’t know what we know tonight. But it still feels like a frustrating lack of progress. And maybe it’s no coincidence that today I haven’t left the house…

I think you must have had a preview of the book, Jenny! I am a great advocate of leaving things that are taking a huge amount of effort, and going back to them when I’m feeling more inspired. Some people fear it’s procrastination, but I’ve always found it hugely beneficial to let things lie for a while so your subconscious can work on them. The disappointing thing about our day of photography was that we spent a lot of time and effort but the results were just plain bad! But I’ve learnt something very useful so don’t mind so much in retrospect!

As my grandmother says, ‘Some days are diamond, some days are stone’! There will always be times when you have a nasty sticky treacle day – I try and overcome them by doing something completely different, like having a bath or going for a walk and just generally trying to change the day’s energy. Usually this breaks the funk and helps the flow……
